Podcast Announcement

Folks

I have been having ongoing issues with trying to find a host for the podcast, hipcast didn't work because of the size limit for each upload and now podbean I have discovered seems to be having difficulty to reading the episode titles and everytime I upload one the others get overwritten!!

This is not acceptable going forward and so I am back to drawing board in looking for an further alternative all of which will take time and money.

For that reason and to take some of the pressure of rushing to to do this as I want to get this right this time, I have made the decision to put the podcast on a temporary break until 2014.  In the remaining 4 weeks or so of this year there is so much to do and I right now I can not promise I can get the podcast back up and running until things have calmed down in the new year.

I will still be on Ravelry and social media sites and on the blog and I will try to keep everyone as up to date as possible with progress.

The current share your LOLs thread will therefore now cover November and December and will be drawn in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Keep on knitting :)

Episode 57 - Lots to Share

Well hello!!

Welcome to this weeks episode, and thank you for joining me.  Its been a busy three weeks which I catch you up on in the podcast.

LOLs
First LOL is my very first pattern that I have released on Ravelry (£2.50) it is Sowing the Seeds Cowl and I am very excited to be sharing this with you.

The pattern is easily adapted to different sizes and weights of yarn.

The first cowl is knit in a merino / bamboo blend from www.yarntoknit.co.uk

My second LOL is also the cowl pattern and this time in a darker yarn from Cakewalk Yarns which is unfortunately now closed  in the stash base which is a 80/10/10 blend of merino, nylon and cashmere.

Third LOL is not a knitted object but a tatting project.  I taught myself to tat with the help of some excellent Youtube videos from TattedTreasures.

Nattering Away
The first project shared has not seen alot of love in the past three weeks.  It is Goodale by Cecily Glowik MacDonald.  I am using Patons Superwash Merino in a burgundy colour and size 4mm needles.

And then onto the Christmas Projects
American Socks are still on the needles although I have almost finished the second sock leaving just the afterthought heels to do :)  These are being knit on size 2.25mm needles in stares and stripes yarn from ArtisticYarnbyAbi

Second socks to share with you are basic shaped arch socks by Marlow Crawford.  One sock is complete and the ribbing has just been started on the second, these are cuff down and knit in  Countess Ablaze Lady Kathryn Sock base in the Party Colourway on 2.25mm needles

Third socks are plain vanilla socks in Austermann Step Yarn on 2.25mm needles.

Speech Therapy
I was given sock lovely gifts for my birthday which I share :)

I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll speak to you soon

Bye now :)

Episode 56 - Drawings and Organisation

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

itunes is all up and running now but you will need to resubscribe to the new feed which starts with episode 55.

There are lots of drawings to do and so I went ahead and did these before I started recording.

I have been contacted by ATexasYarn who is Alison with the sad news that Betty sadly lost her battle with bladder cancer and passed away on 31st October.  In honour of Betty Alison is increasing the amount of the pattern price that is donated to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network from $2.50 to $3.50 which is around 75% of the price, through to July 7th 2014 which is Betty's birthday.

Chatter: Its been the usual bust couple of weeks here and I have some exciting developments in that I have begun working on my first design.  The prototype is complete and the pattern is currently being test knit by Charminglochie (Kelly) and hopefully Mel from the Single Handed Knits podcast and I hope to have the pattern finished and ready by mid November.  It will be a paid for pattern.

I also spent some time sorting the craft room out and went though all my stash.  I weighed all my left over sock skeins and labelled them so I know how much I have left and plan to start using some of these up on smaller projects.

LOLs - nothing to see here....

Nattering Away
Goodale is still on the needles, I am using an old Patons superwash Merino yarn and size 4mm needles

Also in the needles is a pair of vanilla socks in the stars and stripes yarn I purchased a few weeks ago from knitpurlgurl on etsy.  I am using 2.25mm needles and 64 stitches.  I will do a true afterthought heel. These are for a Christmas gift.

Also while clearing out the craft room I rediscovered a long standing hibernating project which I am now going to finish.  It is a reversable Cinderella doll from Jean Greenhowe's Christmas Special Booklet.  I was so close to finishing it seems silly not to and this will also be a Christmas gift.

Tongue Twister
I have been trying out my spindle I bought at the Bakewell Wool Gathering, and I am spinning some fibre from hilltopcloud on etsy and this is BFL, Merino and Bamboo in the Sunflower colourway.

I have not made any purchases but have spent some time sorting my queue on Ravelry out.

Thats all for this week, see you soon

Bye now :)

Episode 55 - A blip in the Road

The past couple of weeks have been somewhat of a roller coaster and I working to get the podcast back on line and on itunes.

I will update the shownotes in the coming days but wanted to get something up as soon as I could

Also despite what I said on the podcast Hipcast didn't work for me as there was a size limit to the file I could upload which made it very poor quality so I moved to Podbean!!  Hoping to get this back onto itunes as soon as I can.. fingers crossed

Thanks for your patience :)

Special Episode with my Buddy

You may have seen this post on Single Handed Knits but Mel has kindly allowed me to post this here too just incase.

Hope you enjoy watching this as much as we enjoyed filming it :)

Episode 54 - In the Park

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

If you are on Ravelry and looking for me there I am knittynatterzena and I am on Twitter and Plurk and also Instagram as knittynatter

There is a group on ravelry knittynatter-podcast and it would be great if you came and joined.  Every month there is a finished projects thread and one random generated winner gets their choice of either a pattern on ravelry up to the value of $7 or a set of my hand made stitch markers and you can go over to the etsy store knittynatter to choose a set from there.

We are on location this week as I take you into Sutton Park; spreading over 2000 acres and home to 7 lakes, 3 restaurants, a few cafes/bistros, children's playgrounds, a donkey sanctuary, wild exmoor ponies, cattle and plenty of other wildlife.

The park was created as a deer park in the 12th century when King Henry gave some forrest land to the Earls of Warwick, late in the 1520's Sutton Coldfield and its hunting grounds came into the possession of Henry VIII and in 1528 a Royal Charter was granted allowing the townspeople to hunt and graze their animals in the park.  Over the next few hundred years the park was decreased in size as local land owners and gentry were granted portions of the park to incorporate into their estates.
Recreational use of the park began in the mid 19th century during which time horse racing courses were constructed along with golf courses and with the arrival of the railway the park was a popular destination for day trippers with fun fairs and accommodation.

During the first world war huts were built and they were used to provide convalesence to wounded soilders and in the second world war it was used as a training ground.

The park is now a National Nature Reserve and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

This week I have drawn for the September share your LOLS thread.

LOLs
The test knit is completed for No Parking! socks by Alison Ziegler.  The pattern is now released and Alison has very kindly donated two copies of her pattern for a giveaway on the podcast.  I have opened a thread in the group and please post any funny parking / car related stories to be entered in the prize drawing.  I will be leaving this thread open for at least 2 weeks.

The socks were knit with sock yarn from www.theknittinggoddess.co.uk on size 2.25mm needles.

I have also completed a crocheted hamster as part of my sons birthday present.

Nattering away
I am still working on babbling by Sierra Anderson out of Rowan Pima Cotton Yarn in Salsa colour.  I am using 4.00mm needles for the main body and this is also a knit together with Mel in singlehandedknits group so go ahead and check out that group for more details.

I have completed some more of Jete a shawl written by Michelle Miller out of Natural Dye Studio yarn in the Wisteria colourway.

With no spinning or speech therapy thats all for this week, I hope that you enjoyed our time in the park, have a good couple of weeks, and I will see you soon,

Bye now :)

You may have heard from other podcasts that blip is going through a process of reviewing the content of the site and are removing those "shows" that do not fit with the profile they are looking for.  Some other podcasts have already been removed.. I have not has any notification as yet so I will continue to post to blip for the time being.  I am looking at other option but need something low cost so may have to go with you tube for the short term if I get kicked off blip until I can figure out an alternative.

If the podcast does not appear on itunes when you expect it to then check the group or here as it may be I have been deleted by blip and the podcast is being posted elsewhere.

That said over the summer I am switching to recording every other week as life takes over.

Thank you to everybody that provided me with feedback on the podcast it is all appreciated and very welcomed

LOL
I cast on and finished the Drizzle by Mel Ski which is a paid for pattern on Ravelry.
I love this knit it was simple and quick and will probably feature highly on my Christmas knitting.  i used Rowan Dk yarn (merino silk blend) which is so soft and lovely.

Nattering away
I made good progress on the In the Pink by Izzyknits which is a free pattern on Ravelry.  I am using Schoppel Wolle Zauberball in the Denim colourway and am now on the knitted on border after spending a long while figuring out the joining together of the different pieces!!  This is being knit on size 4.00mm needles.

Worked a little bit more on the splitty socks which are my standard 60 stitch sock on 2.25mm needles.

I took last week off as life happened .. thank you for all of the well wishes.  and my knitting time has been restricted for various reasons so I don't feel like I have a lot to show for two weeks !

LOL
The Trillian is finished which is for the Bhemalong with Wolfe Farms and LemKnitCrochet podcasts.
This is a paid for pattern on Ravelry and I used some sadly discontinued yarn from At Knits End Yarns in the Moondance with Ewe colourway on 3.25mm needles.  I thoroughly enjoyed knitting this pattern and love the colours.

Nattering away
I made some progress on the In the Pink by Izzyknits which is a free pattern on Ravelry.  I am using Schoppel Wolle Zauberball in the Denim colourway and will do the large shawl as I have two balls of this yarn.  I am using size 4.00mm needles and have finished the centre medallion and am close to finishing the first side wedge.  The instructions are all written so this is not a portable project!

I have also been working on the baby jacket which was in issue 107 of Simply Knitting,  it is a jacket with fair isle foxes on and is knit in pieces from the bottom up.  Back and one side is done. Rowan dk yarn and needles 3.25mm and 4.00mm

I also started some vanilla socks for travel knitting and these will follow my usual 60 stitch on 2.25mm needles and probably an afterthought heel.

I aslo did two edging repeats on the evenstar-shawl but there is so much more to do!!

No spinning for tongue twister

Whispering to me / Speech Therapy
Drizzle by Mel Ski from the Single Handed Knits Podcast and I went and bought the yarn I talked about last time which is Rowan baby merino silk in a beautiful heathered blue / grey colour.

I hope you all have a fantastic week and I will see you soon

Episode 45 - Not much to see here!

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

If you are on Ravelry and looking for me there I am knittynatterzena and I am on Twitter and Plurk as knittynatter

There is a group on ravelry knittynatter-podcast and it would be great if you came and joined.  Every month there is a finished projects thread and one random generated winner gets their choice of either a pattern on ravelry up to the value of $7 or a set of my hand made stitch markers and you can go over to the etsy store knittynatter to choice a set from there.

Chatter
Talking of drawings I have closed the thread for May and have a RNG drawing to pick last months winner.
Short week this week and not much knitting time I am sorry to say.  That said I do have a LOL

LOL
the lady edith by the sadly missed Karrie Steinmetz (knitpurlgurl) is done off the needles and blocked.  This for the KAL with the knittingden podcast  in memory of Karrie.  This pattern was very kindly given to me as a gift on a RAP Tuesday by Keli who is SheepDreamery of the Sheepdreamery Podcast and she also dyes beautiful yarn which you can find in her etsy store.
I am used araucania Botany lace out of my stash which is 450 yards of fingering weight and 4.00mm needle and did pretty wel with the yardage so I will be entering this into stashdash 2013 also with the Knit Girllls.

Nattering away
I dont have that much to show you for nattering away.  I didn't work on the Trillian at all this week which if for  a Bhemalong with Wolfe Farms and LemKnitCrochet podcasts.

I have just about cast on for two new projects and they aren't the sage or the plain vanilla socks I talked about last week.

I have just about started the In the Pink by Izzyknits which is a free pattern on Ravelry.  I am using Schoppel Wolle Zauberball in the Denim colourway and will do the large shawl as I have two balls of this yarn.  I am using size 4.00mm needles and just started the first medallion,  The instructions are all written so this will not be portable project!

I also have cast on for a baby jacket which was in issue 107 of Simply Knitting,  it is a jacket with fair isle foxes on and is knit in pieces from the bottom up.  I started with the back and had almost completed the fix heads until I realised I have not changed up the larger 4.00mm needles from the 3.25mm needles I had used to do the ribbing... so there really is not alot to see!!

I haven't started spinning anything new yet and in terms of whispering to me, I still want to start the sage but I need the time to swatch and get going on it.

I hope you all have a fantastic week and I will see you soon

Bye now :)

This week's episode is a little late I am recording on Monday. We have a long weekend in the UK as its spring bank holiday and we took a day trip to London on Saturday which was brilliant.  We went to The Natural History Museum, Whitehall, Westminster, Covent Garden, took a river taxi on the Thames to the Tower of London where we saw the Crown Jewels and the famous Ravens.  The weather has thankfully improved a little this weekend and it was at least dry and and relatively warm although it is due to turn chilly again from tomorrow!!

LOL
I have three LOLS to share with you this week

I finished the Summery Sweet Socks which are vanilla socks on a 2.25mm needles and 60 stitches around.  The yarn is Opal Sweet and Spicy sock yarn.  I just had a couple of rows left and the bind off so there finished right after I recorded last week.

I also finished the spring shoots sock by Alice Yu out of the Socktopus Book.  Yarn is the Boardwalk Roses from highlandhandmades sugar maple sock base and these were on 2.5m needles.  I modified hte pattern to add a 3x1 rib cuff rather than the applied cuff in the pattern.

A new cast on and now a LOL was Claude the Closet Monster which is out of The Big Book of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger.  This was out of my handspun from Butterfly Bush Yarns in Robot Colourway.  I used 3.25mm needles and it took around 100 yards.  I have entered this into the Stash Dash 2013 with The Knit Girllls.

Nattering Away
Some more progress on the the lady edith by the sadly missed Karrie Steinmetz (knitpurlgurl) and this will be a KAL with the knittingden podcast for May in memory of Karrie.  This pattern was very kindly given to me as a gift on a RAP Tuesday by Keli who is SheepDreamery of the Sheepdreamery Podcast and she also dyes beautiful yarn which you can find in her etsy store.
I am using araucania Botany lace out of my stash which is 450 yards of fingering weight and 4.00mm needle.

A new cast on is the Trillian by Martina Bham.  I am using so stash yarn from At Knits End who is sadly no linger dying but this is a lovely mix of blues and pinks in the Moondance with Ewe Colourway. I cast this on in an effort to regain my mojo which left me for a couple of days this week and was a feeling I did not enjoy!  This is for a Bhemalong with Wolfe Farms and LemKnitCrochet podcasts. I am loving this pattern, I enjoy the simplicity and the colours of the yarn

I haven't started spinning anything new yet and in terms of whispering to me, I will cast on a pait of socks and probable another cardigan soon.  I have jumped in on stashdash in the hope that it will give me an incentive to finish up the evenstar as I will be able  to count the yardage on that which would give me a big boost!
No purchases this week and so that's all for this week's update, so I hope you have a fantastic week and I will see you soon, bye now.

LOL
The new pattern from Mel Ski the old man and the sea which was very kindly given to me by Mel.  I wanted to use stash and have some discontinued Patons Washed Haze in a lovely green colour.  This is a DK weight yarn and having checked my gauge I knit the smallest size which is written for 32" but has worked out to be correct for me with the DK yarn.  Needles used were 4.00mm and 4.5mm needles.

Episode 42 - Good Progress

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

If you are on Ravelry and looking for me there I am knittynatterzena and I am on Twitter and Plurk as knittynatter

There is a group on ravelry knittynatter-podcast and it would be great if you came and joined.  Every month there is a finished projects thread and one random generated winner gets their choice of either a pattern on ravelry up to the value of $7 or a set of my hand made stitch markers and you can go over to the etsy store knittynatter to choice a set from there.

I don't have any LOLs this week

Nattering Away
I have finished one of the Summery Sweet Socks which are vanilla socks on a 2.25mm needles and 60 stitches around.  The yarn is Opal Sweet and Spicy sock yarn and I have just started the gusset increases on the second sock.

I also did a little bit of work on the spring shoots sock by Alice Yu out of the Socktopus Book.  Working my way up the leg on the first sock.

I have cast on fot the new pattern from Mel Ski the old man and the sea which was very kindly given to me by Mel.  I wanted to use stash and have some discontinued Patons Washed Haze in a lovely green colour.  This is a DK weight yarn and having checked my gauge I am knitting the smallest size which is written for 32" but will work out to be correct for me with the DK yarn.  I have a total of 786 yards of this which should be enough.

Also new on the needles this week was the the lady edith by the sadly missed Karrie Steinmetz (knitpurlgurl) and this will be a KAL with the knittingden podcast for May in memory of Karrie.

Tongue Twister
I am gone back to my wheel, my Ladybug named Layla and On there I have 100% south American Fibre from Butterfly bush yarns in the Robot colourway.  I have spun the first half which is on one bobbin and I am now ont he second half which I have separated into thirds.  the finished yarn will be a 2 ply.

Speech Therapy
I have a new niddy noddy from hilltopcloud which is a beautiful 2 yard niddy noddy out of welsh wood, and while looking I spotted some lovely fibre which I had to have.  This is 50% merino, 38% shetland and 12% llama in Peacock colours,  I love it.

That's all for this week's update, so I hope you have a fantastic week and I will see you soon, bye now.

Episode 41 - Its been a year

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

If you are on Ravelry and looking for me there I am knittynatterzena and I am on Twitter and Plurk as knittynatter

There is a group on ravelry knittynatter-podcast and it would be great if you came and joined.  Every month there is a finished projects thread and one random generated winner gets their choice of either a pattern on ravelry up to the value of $7 or a set of my hand made stitch markers and you can go over to the etsy store knittynatter to choice a set from there.

This week we have the drawing for April Share you LOLs

Chatter
It has been a year since I did my first podcast, I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I am thoroughly enjoying myself and so I will be around for a while yet.
I have been enjoying the warmer weather and the sunshine and so thought that I would come and sit here by the window to the garden.

LOLs
I have been busy this week and mostly this weekend, I went to Stitch Solihull yesterday for knitting group and while I was there I purchased some fabric.  I have been wanting to sew more with the warmer weather I have been thinking about a summer skirt.
The fabrics there was lovely and I opted for a light pattern fabric which reminded me of leaves growing and flowers beginning to bud.

I opted to make a simple gathered skirt with a waistband and this is about knee length.  I wanted a casual look and so rather than a zip the skirt buttons up the entire length at the front.  My buttons are a selection of pinks which differ slightly to continue the casual look.  To add a little bit of detail the waist band has the pattern running horizontally rather than vertically.

The technical information on this is that the material was 45" wide and I purchased 2 meters I have over half a metre left.  I used one width for the back and then one width for the front (split in two).  I lightly interfaced the waist band for a bit of stability and added some over stitching detail at the bottom and waist band.  Overall length is 24".

Also finished this week is the beatnik which a free pattern through ravelry and knitty.com from Norah Gaughan.  I used Rowan 100% superwash wool aran weight in a red colour and bought 7 skeins , I have just around a total of one left over. I slightly modified this to get a 34" size and reduced the side panels by a total of 8 stitches (4 each side).  the sleeve I knit as per the 36" size and I have read that they sometimes come up tight.  I am delighted with this finished jumper and it fits perfectly :)

Nattering Away
I have made a small amount of progress on my Summery Sweet Socks which are vanilla socks on a 2.25mm needles and 60 stitches around.  The yarn is Opal Sweet and Spicy sock yarn and I have completed the gusset increases on the first sock and am about to turn the heel.  I have increased to a total of 56 stitches for the gusset.

Spring Shoot Socks did not quite make it into my hands and nor did the Evenstar.

Whispering to me
The Sage I was swatching for last week have been put on hold for a little while as I am going to be knitting the new pattern from Mel Ski the old man and the sea which is due to be released tomorrow.  I have also purchased and downloaded the book to my kindle and will be reading along whilst I knit this beautiful pattern.  The pattern is written with sport weight yarn in mind but I wanted to use stash and have some discontinued Patons Washed Haze in a lovely green colour.  This is a DK weight yarn and having checked my gauge I will be able to knit the smallest size which is written for 32" but will work out to be correct for me with the DK yarn.  I have a total of 786 yards of this which should be enough.

Also whispering to me which will be on the needles this afternoon is the the lady edith by the sadly missed Karrie Steinmetz (knitpurlgurl) and this will be a KAL with the knittingden podcast for May in memory of Karrie.  This pattern was very kindly given to me as a gift on a RAP Tuesday by Keli who is SheepDreamery of the Sheepdreamery Podcast and she also dyes beautiful yarn which you can find in her etsy store.
I intend to use araucania Botany lace out of my stash which is 450 yards of fingering weight and I will probably use a 4.00mm needle to get a nice drape which is the same size needle I used on the last shawl I knit with this yarn and it worked really well.

My speech therapy this week was the fabric that has already become my new skirt.

That's all for this week's update, so I hope you have a fantastic week and I will see you soon, bye now.

Episode 39 - It's all about the swivel !

Hello, and welcome to Episode 39

If you are looking for me on Ravelry I am knittynatterzena and the group is knittynatter-podcast group where have a monthly share you Lols thread to enter all of your finished objects whether they be knitting, crochet, spinning, etc.

Etsy store is open and I will be adding more stitch markers later on today, Sunday evening.  The store can be found at http://www.etsy.com/shop/Knittynatter  please contact me if you have any specific request and I will do my best to help.

I had a pretty stressful seek with work but more than made up for that with a lovely day yesterday.  Stitch Solihull which is the LYS I talked about a couple of Episodes ago have started sip and stitch gatherings and I was delighted when I learned there was to be a weekend one.  yesterday I went along and spent a glorious couple of hours sitting and knitting and chatting and met some lovely ladies and was made to feel very welcome.  Thank yo to the ladies there for your company and chatter and I hope to be going along as often as possible.

LOLS
The Birthday Pumpkin Socks are finished.  I finished these up yesterday while I was sitting and knitting with my new friends.  Pattern is the  Simple Skyp Socks by Adrienne Ku (free download on Ravelry) and I used the Scruffy Gnome Base which is fingering weight 85% Sw merino and 15% Donegal Tweed and this is the Pumpkin Spice Latte Colour from Gnomeacres.  Size 2.25mm needles, two circulars.

Nattering Away
I have also made good progress in the beatnik by Norah Gaughan (free pattern on Ravelry and Knitty.com).  I have just started the armhole shaping on the front, the back is complete.  This is a modified sizing to get to a 34" size.  I am using Rowan Pure Wool Aran on 5.00mm needles.  One of the purchases I made at Stitch Solihull yesterday were some Hiya Hiya sharp needles and one of the sizes I bought was the 5.00mm as I wanted to try them on this project, especially as I am cabling without a cable needle.  I love them! the needles are lighter that the Knit Pro Nova and everything just seems a tad easier. The cable swivelling in the casing is a massive positive or me as this prevents them coming unscrewed and getting stitches caught in the gap.  I think that I will gradually be making the change over.

Unfortunately there has been slow progress on the evenstar-shawl by Susan Pandorf ($8 pattern on ravelry).   The yarn is from CountessAblaze and is the BFL lace in Dusk Colourway.  I decided to give up on the dental floss as it was driving me nuts and I was not enjoying the process.  thankfully my replacement crochet hook has arrived, I went for a slightly larger size at 0.75mm and I am hoping that this will make the border more enjoyable again.

I haven't worked on Spring Shoots Socks from Socktopus by Alice Yu.

Whispering to me is in a state of flux as there is so much I want to cast on but one thing that is a definite are some vanilla socks out of the Opal yarn I purchased a couple of weeks ago as I do not have any portable projects on the needles.  These will be my standard 60 stitch on 2.25mm needles.

Speech Therapy
Other than the 5mm Hiya Hiya needle I aslo went for the 4mm and the 3.75mm and two cables to try out.

I also bought two skeins of Schoppel Zauberball int he same colourway,  blues and blacks as I specifically wanted these for In the Pink by IzzyKnits (free pattern on Ravelry) although I will probably get the Evenstar completed before I cast this on.

That's it for this week, I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Bye Now

Episode 38 - The return of an old friend

Hello, and welcome to Episode 38

If you are looking for me on Ravelry I am knittynatterzena and the group is knittynatter-podcast group where have a monthly share you Lols thread to enter all of your finished objects whether they be knitting, crochet, spinning, etc.

I have opened at Etsy Store following some wonderful feedback and support from you all, thank you so much.  The store can be found athttp://www.etsy.com/shop/Knittynatter  please contact me if you have any specific request and I will do my best to help.

LOLS
The Vanilla Hobbit socks are done. These are in GeminiKnits dark eyes colourway on 2.25mm needle magic loop.  I did notice that the Geminiknits store on Etsy is closed at the moment as I believe she is off having a baby

Nattering Away
I picked up the beatnik by Norah Gaughan (free pattern on Ravelry and Knitty.com.  I have just started the armhole shaping.  This is a modified sizing to get to a 34" size.  I am using Rowan Pure Wool Aran on 5.00mm needles.

New cast on this week are the Simple Skyp Socks by Adrienne Ku (free download on Ravelry) and I am using the Scruffy Gnome Base which is fingering weight 85% Sw merino and 15% Donegal Tweed and this is the Pumpkin Spice Latte Colour from Gnomeacres.  I have made good progress with these, the first sock is done and I am almost to heel flap on the second so they should be done in time for May 1st. I cast on the large size (64 stitches) to allow for hte fact that I am usinf fingering weight yarn and the pattern is written for sport.

And we have the return of an old friend this week.  I picked up my evenstar-shawl by Susan Pandorf ($8 pattern on ravelry).  It has been quite a while since we saw this.  The yarn is from CountessAblaze and is the BFL lace in Dusk Colourway.  Minor disaster as when I seem to have lost my 0.6mm crochet hook that I use to do the beading but after a quick trip to the local supermarket to get some Ultra Dental Floss I was able to continue.  It is not my preferred method but it will get me through which I wait for my replacement crochet hook to arrive.  I only managed 2 edging repeats yesterday but that takes me to 7 completed.. only another 49 to go!! This is on 3.25m needles.

I haven't worked on Spring Shoots Socks from Socktopus by Alice Yu.

No whispering to me I am going to admit to and no speech therapy this week.

That's it for this week, I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Bye Now

3 Day week at work has meant time with my family and this weekend I have had a crafty productive weekend which you will the fruits of.
I went to my local bead store Spellbound Beads and bought a range of beads and I have been making some stitch markers,  I really enjoy doing this and I am considering starting to sell them on etsy, let me know what you think.

LOLS
The Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry) is done!.  I am so pleased to get this done and am really pleaded.  Its only partially blocked to stop the rib sections curling too much. I ended up using almost 9 of the 10 balls of Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I used 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I knit the 34' size with no modifications to the pattern.

Nattering Away
The Vanilla Hobbit sock saw some more work this week. I am on the second sock and just started the gusset increases.  These are in GeminiKnits dark eyes colourway on 2.25mm needle magic loop

Also done some more work on Spring Shoots Socks from Socktopus by Alice Yu, I am using Highland Handmades sock yarn in Boardwalk Roses colourway on 2.5mm needles.  I now have two feet completed and need to go back and do the legs on both socks.

Beatnik did not get any attention this week but it will back on the agenda now the Ink is completed.

Speech Therapy
I won some more beautiful Highland Handmades sugar maple sock in the Snuggle Up Colourway which was a prize with the Yarnivore Podcast and the Snuggle FAL KAL that Sadie did.

I also purchased some yarn from Gnomeacres which is for a gift knit.  This is the Scruffy Gnome Base which is fingering weight 85% Sw merino and 15% Donegal Tweed and this is the Pumpkin Spice Latte Colour.  This yarn will be knit into a pair of socks for a birthday gift for OH and need to be completed by May 1st,  I think I will probably do the Simple Skyp Socks by Adrienne Ku for a bit of texture but nothing over the top.

Quick flash of the stitch makers I made up with some of my goodies from the dead store.

That's it for this week, I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Hope you have all had a great Easter weekend, I have been off on a couple of day trips and a vivst to a new LYS which officially opened on Friday.

Stitch Solihull is located in Notcutts Garden Centre in Solihull and stocks, Easyknits, Malabrigo, locally dyed yarn and fyberspates and also Bergere, some beautiful handmade buttons, stitchmarkers, knitpro needles and I also spotted some hiya hiya shch I may have to get when I go back.  There was also a selection of fabrics and a lovely area for sitting with some awesome sofas.  I have a feeling I will be a regular.  More can be found out StitchSolihull on facebook.

Despite the freezing temperatures I also went to Kenilworth Castle which is a partly ruined castle where Queen Elizabeth I spent time during her "holidays' where she toured around the country, the longest stay in 1575.  It was where Robert Dudley resided who was rumoured to be in love with the queen and wished to marry her but it was never to be, although it is thought that Queen Elizabeth never married as she loved Robert Dudley but could not marry him as it would demean her position.

Today was a visit to Boscobel House which is a former hunting lodge where Charles II famously hid in a priest hole and then in an Oak Tree in 1651 to escape Cromwell's armies before finally escaping to France before returning to reclaim the throne.

LOLS
Finished is the tank top from Little Sweet Peas book from Sirdar.
I used Sirdar snuggly DK in an apple green colour size 3.25mm for ribbing and 4.00mm needle for the body.  This was knit in pieces and then sewn together

Nattering Away

Still working on the Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry).  I am using Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I am using 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I am knitting the 34' size. Both arms are now complete so I just need to continue down the body.

The Vanilla Hobbit sock saw some love this week and I have now finished one sock and just started the second.  these are in GeminiKnits dark eyes colourway on 2.25mm needle magic loop

Alos done some more work on Spring Shoots Socks from Socktopus by Alice Yu, I am using Highland Handmades sock yarn in Boardwalk Roses colourway on 2.5mm needles.  Finished the foot on one sock.

Beatnik did not get any attention this week and I am not going to cast anything else on until I have finished either one of the pairs of socks or the Ink.

Speech Therapy
Purchases from Stitch Solihull - Opal Sweet and Spicy sock yarn
Eucalan in Grapefruit Scent
Bag of assorted buttons
5 10g balls of Opal for my sock yarn blanket.

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

So much for the first day of spring this week! We have snow and its Easter next weekend!!  Snow started here on Thursday night and hasn't really stopped yet!

LOLS
I knit a snuggle this week for my kitty's, and I am going to try to knit more of these.  This was stash acrylic and I held it double (one strand of each colour) on 6mm needles.  Followed the format for grandmothers favorite dishcloth

Nattering Away

I have made great progress on the Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry).  I am using Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I am using 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I am knitting the 34' size. I have one arm complete and was pleased that it only took one ball of the wool so I should have plenty to finish the cardigan.

the beatnik (free pattern on Knitty/Ravelry) by Norah Gaughan.  I am using Rowan pure wool aran, which is 100% superwash wool in a dark red colour.  I did some maths with this is I was between sizes and felt that a 4" difference in sizings was too much.  I will add my notes on what I did to my project page.  Working on the back, have done the waist decreases and now working straight until I need to increase again. Only managed one more repeat on this this week

I did cast on another project, with is tank top from Little Sweet Peas book from Sirdar.
I am using Sirdar snuggly DK in an apple green colour and this is a ball I had left over from the crochet blanket.  needles sizes are 3.25mm for ribbing and 4.00mm needle for the body.  I am on the back.

No whispering to me, tongue twister or speech therapy this week

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

This week I focused on trying to get one of the larger projects done and I don't seem to have much knitting time in the week.  I did have a lovely relaxing massage on Tuesday which really helped with the tension in my shoulders, with knitting and working at a computer or driving for the majority of my days it can build up so I think I will try to have on at least once a month.

Yesterday we went to an indoor water park which is about an hours drive from here and had a fun time in the slides and chutes and then watch John Carter movie last night.

I also must be feeling the onset of spring as I have been bitten by the de-cluttering bug again and was up early this morning sorting through clothes and other stuff clearing out those things which I havn't worn for a while and anything that either doesn't fit quite right or is not particularly flattering.

LOLS
I finally finished the Ripple Crochet Blanket!  5.0mm hook and the yarn is a mix of  Sirdar Snuggly DK and Patons DK. There are more detailed notes on the pattern on my project page for the blanket here

Nattering Away

I did some more work on the Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry).  I am using Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I am using 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I am knitting the 34' size.

Two new casts ons this week :)

the beatnik (free pattern on Knitty/Ravelry) by Norah Gaughan.

I also cast on the Spring Shoots sock by Alice Yu out of hte Socktopus book I received as a gift for my birthday.  I am using Highland Handmades sugar maple sock in Boardwalk Roses colourway.  This sock had a slightly different toe construction to one I have used before and also is worked with an afterthought leg, so I am looking forward to trying that.

Vanilla Hobbit socks haven't seen any work as all of my knitting has been done at home this week and so I have worked on those projects that are not portable.

No whispering to me, tongue twister or speech therapy this week

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Bye Now

Work is still busy and I have been focused on trying to get one of the larger projects done this week so I don't have much 'knitting' to show you although I do try to make up for it with a poem :)

It has been a good week for watching movies though with Avengers, Captain America and Thor or watched this week.

Happy Mother's Day for those celebrating it today.

LOLS
I do have a LOL which I finished this week and that is the pimpelliese (free pattern on Ravelry) with Countess Ablaze, Studentknits colourway.

I knit this on 3.5mm needles and loved the construction of this and the fact that you can make it as big or as small for your preference or amount of yarn.  I have been having a few designing ideas popping into my head so I am start playing with a few ideas.

Nattering Away
I have only worked on one other project this week which is the Ripple Crochet Blanket, I am pleased to say the end is in sight. I am using a size 5.0mm hook and the yarn is a mix of  Sirdar Snuggly DK and Patons DK. There are more detailed notes on the pattern on my project page for the blanket here

No love given to the Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry) or the Hobbit vanilla socks

Whispering to Me / Speech Therapy
I bought yarn yesterday (Rowan 100% superwash wool - aran) for the beatnik (free pattern on Knitty/Ravelry) which I have decided to be my next cast on.  I was considering making this with stash DK but I have other things planned for all of my Dk and really wanted this to be a little bit of a more substantial jumper.

Poem at the end in honour of Mother's Day

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Episode 32 - I need to get stuff finished!

Hello, and welcome to Episode 32

If you are looking for me on Ravelry I am knittynatterzena and the group is knittynatter podcast group where have a monthly share you Lols thread to enter all of your finished objects whether they be knitting, crochet, spinning, etc.

We have a drawing for the February share you LOLs thread in the Ravelry Group.

Chatter
Its been a busy week changing jobs so I will be doing both for a while which has meant longer hours, and less time for knitting, hopefully it will settle down but suspect it is going to be a good couple of months before I can relinquish fully my previous role.

LOLS
All that said I do have two LOLs this week

I finished another knit snuggle completed out of Patons Big Fab Colour (which was intended for slippers but since frogged).  This was garter stitch , with a slipped stitch edge just to give it a finish.

I have also finished the color affection with artesano 100% alpaca 4 ply in Argentina, Colombia and Forget me Not.  4.00mm needles.  The bind off wasn't as loose as it ideally could have been but it works for me.

The rest of what I have worked on this week:

The Ripple Crochet Blanket has seen a little bit of progress. I am using a size 5.0mm hook and the yarn is a mix of  Sirdar Snuggly DK and Patons DK. There are more detailed notes on the pattern on my project page for the blanket here - I have started the colour sequence again.

I managed to get probably just one repeat on the Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry) and this was given to me as a Birthday Gift by LittleRiaHen.  I am using Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I am using 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I am knitting the 34' size.

Vanilla socks on (known as my hobbit socks on 2.25mm needle - up to the gusset increases on the first socka yarn is Gemini Knits - dark eyes 100% merino

New cast on this week is the pimpelliese (free pattern on Ravelry) with Countess Ablaze, Studentknits colourway I am loving this pattern its on 3.5mm needles.

Tongue Twister
I have still have some fibre on the wheel but not touched it this week.

Whispering to Me
I want to get either the sweater or the blanket close to finished before I start anything else so I am going to try to work on these for the next couple of weeks.

No speech therapy this week

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Episode 31 - Back to the real world

Hello, hello and welcome to Episode 31, it feels like eons since I last did a proper podcast, we have interent issues to thank for my unscheduled absence.

If you are looking for me on Ravelry I am knittynatterzena and the group is knittynatter podcast group where have a monthly share you Lols thread to enter all of your finished objects whether they be knitting, crochet, spinning, etc.

Chatter
I would like to start off by saying a very bug thank you for all of the feedback and lovely words of support that my last podcast prompted and also the ongoing support and chatter that you all provide on a regular basis, I am only sorry that I could not reply to you all due to the aforementioned technical issues but please know that I read them all and they are all valued by me.

LOLS
I have some LOLs that you have not even seen in progress!

I finished another For Good Hat as a gift for my friend which has already gone to its new owner.  I used, Rowan Creative Focus Worsted in a beautiful apple green colour and size 3.75mm needles.

Mind the Gap socks have been started and finished and fore these I used the fabulous Mind the Gap colourway from Trailing Clouds which is a self striping sock yarn based on the colours that appear on the London tube station.  These are for a Christmas gift for OH sister who lives in London.  I bought a short skein and I like to try to get my self striping socks to match so I decided to do the heels, toes and cuffs in black (for which I used Regia sock yarn).  it was by pure luck that when I came to put the waste yarn in for the heel that this happened to fall in the middle of a black stripe which meant that I could also end the leg on black and go into the cuff preserving the colour order.

These were knit toe up on 2.25mm needles and 64 stitches around.

I also have a knit snuggle completed out of Patons Big Fab (which was intended for slippers but since frogged).  I knit this based on the grandmothers favorite dishcloth pattern but I have no idea what the needles size are as they are too big for my gauge, the finished size is 16 inches by 16 inches.

The rest of what I have worked on since we last spoke

The Ripple Crochet Blanket has seen a little bit of progress although this is slowing now as I concetrate on other items.  I am using a size 5.0mm hook and the yarn is a mix of  Sirdar Snuggly DK and Patons DK. There are more detailed notes on the pattern on my project page for the blanket here

I managed to get a god amount of progress on Ink by Hanna Maciejewska ($6 pattern of Ravelry) and this was given to me as a Birthday Gift by LittleRiaHen.  I am using Rowan pure wool 4 ply which is a superwash wool and the colour is sage.  I am using 3.25mm and 3.75mm needles which is one size higher than the recommended on the pattern and I am knitting the 34' size. I finally separated for the sleeves and have continued down the body and commenced the travelling pattern section on the body.  I will go back and pick up for the sleeves before I fully finish the body just to ensure that I have enough yarn as my row gauge was short.

I ave also made good progress with the color affection with artesano 100% alpaca 4 ply in Argentina, Colombia and Forget me Not.  4.00mm needles.

Started another knit snuggle in Patons Big Fab, this one I'm knitting straight but just with slipped stitches as the start of each row to give it a more finished egde.

Also just cast on some vanilla socks on 2.25mm needle and done the toe increases ready for cinema trip later today.. yarn is Gemini Knits - dark eyes 100% merino

Tongue Twister
I have been spinning still and finished the  http://gnomeacres.com/ Zombie Flannel which is Polwarth / Silk 85% / 15%.  I achieved 280 yards and this is between a DK and light worsted weight.

Whispering to Me
When the colour affection is done I will cast on with my Countess Ablaze, Studentknits colourway, probably the pimpelliese

No speech therapy this week

Hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll see you next time

Bye Now
